Any speaker will have distortion, which can be divided into harmonic distortion, inter-modulation distortion and transient distortion. Let us first analyze what these three are closely.

1. Transient distortion is that the cone of the horn produces air vibration under the current of the power amplifier, so we hear the sound, but the movement of the cone will produce high-order harmonics and cause serious damage to some short sounds. This kind of distortion is called transient distortion. The specific reason is that because the speaker has a certain inertial quality, the vibration of the basin body cannot keep up with the vibration of the instantaneously changing electrical signal, which causes the difference between the original signal and the playback tone.

2. Inter-modulation distortion mainly affects the tonal aspect of the sound; it refers to the generation of new frequency components after two or more different frequency signals pass through the amplifier or speaker. This distortion is usually caused by the active circuit in the circuit. Produced by devices (such as transistors, electron tubes). The magnitude of the distortion is related to the output power. Since these newly generated frequency components have no similarity with the original signal, the less inter-modulation distortion is easily noticeable by the human ear.

3. Harmonic distortion refers to the distortion caused by the addition of high-order harmonic components that the original signal does not have in the sound playback; generally caused by the non-uniform magnetic field of the speaker and the nonlinear distortion of the vibration plate system, mainly including the material, structure, and Irregularities and inconsistencies caused by glue and craftsmanship. Usually produced at low frequencies, because the amplitude is large at low frequencies, the voice coil, paper cone, and elastic waves are prone to non-linear distortion. In the magnetic return gap of the speaker (as shown in the figure above), there is not only a toroidal magnetic field corresponding to the thickness of the iron sheet, but in fact there is also a magnetic field outside, but the lines of magnetic force are not so dense, so the magnetic field is not a uniform magnetic field. These three kinds of distortion are more important in speakers, which directly affect the degree of sound quality and tone reproduction, so this indicator is closely related to the quality of the speakers. This item is often expressed as a percentage, and the smaller the value, the smaller the distortion. The distortion range of the speaker has certain industry standards: speaker <5%, receiver <3% mylar speaker <10%. These are for speaker products.
